The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, (CISCE) has cancelled the pending ISCE and ISC board examinations for class 10 and 12 in the wake of the novel coronavirus outbreak in the country. Council representatives informed the Supreme Court about this decision on Thursday, June 25. The council further informed that the students would be evaluated in these pending papers on the basis of internal assessment. Details of the internal assessment are yet to be divulged. The decision was taken after the state governments of Delhi, Odisha, Maharashtra and Tamilnadu informed the council of their inability to conduct these examinations on account of the Coronavirus pandemic and the growing rate of daily infections. The council’s decision was conveyed to the Supreme Court by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. It may be recalled that the pending class 10 and 12 board examinations for ICSE and ISC students were scheduled to take place from 1-14 July after they were stalled in March when the ongoing nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of Covid-19 began.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) also informed the Supreme Court that its remaining board examinations were cancelled. The class X CBSE candidates would be awarded marks on the basis of their performance in the last three examinations on the respective pending papers. However the Class XII CBSE candidates could opt for exams later when the situation became conducive to hold examinations, it was informed.. However the class X CBSE candidates will not have an option for re-examination later.

In West Bengal all the pending papers for the Madhyamik (class 10) and Uchhya Madhyamik (class 12) board exams have been rescheduled in July. As of now there has been no decision from the government relating to cancellation of these examinations and they are expected to be held as per schedule.
