In February this year, CBSE had announced that the board exams for class 10th and 12th will be held from may 4th to June 1. Less than a month remains for the commencement of exams and the board announced today that the exams will be cancelled and postponed. Class 10 CBSE board exams are being cancelled while class 12 board exams are postponed. This decision comes after a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal.
The meeting held today is a result of continuous demand for board exam cancellation by the students, as the nation is being hit by a severe second wave of Covid-19. Politicians and Bollywood actors had also come in support of students’ demand saying that the exam centres would be potential covid hotspots. Earlier over 5 lakh students had signed a petition demanding the cancellation of the exam. Class 12 & 10 CBSE exam givers can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the decision comes today from the government. According to the various media reports, the PM stated that the safety and well being of the students is top priority.
As per the notification released by CBSE, Class 10 CBSE board exams are being cancelled however students will get their results. It will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion which is to be developed by the board. The board also said that candidates unsatisfied with their result may sit for the examination once the situation is better enough to conduct examinations.
For Class 12, the board examination has been postponed. CBSE will announce a new date sheet after reviewing the Covid-19 situation on June 1. The notice also read that at least 15 days would be given for the preparation of the examination.
