BSE allows students to appear for the compartment exam under the following conditions:

  • Class 10 students who have failed in one subject in the board examination
  • Class 12 students who have failed in one subject in the board examination
  • Students who have been placed in the “Compartment” category as per their official results
  • Students who passed but wish to improve their marks in a subject are also permitted to apply for these exams

Note: Students who fail in two or more subjects are not eligible for the compartment exam and must reappear in the full board examination next year.

The CBSE Compartment Admit Card 2026 will be released on the official website a few weeks before the exam. Follow these steps to download it:

Method 1: Official Website

  1. Visit the official CBSE website: cbse.gov.in or results.cbse.nic.in
  2. Look for the link “Compartment Admit Card 2026 – Class 10/12”
  3. Click on the link
  4. Enter your Roll Number, School Number, and Admit Card ID
  5. Click “Submit”
  6. Your admit card will appear on the screen
  7. Download and print the admit card for exam day use

Method 2: Through School

  • Schools receive the admit cards from CBSE directly
  • Students can also collect a printed copy from their respective school authorities
  • Always cross-check all printed details and report errors to your school immediately

Important: Students must carry their admit card to the examination centre. Entry will not be permitted without it.

The syllabus and exam pattern for the compartment exam remain the same as the main board examination. Students are tested on the full syllabus of the subject in which they have been compartmentalised.

Key Points:

  • The question paper pattern, marking scheme, and duration are identical to the main exam
  • Practical/internal assessment marks already awarded in the main exam are carried forward
  • Students must clear both theory and practical components (where applicable)

To pass the CBSE Compartment Exam 2026, students must secure a minimum of 33% marks in the subject (theory and practical combined). The same 9-point grading system applies:
