North Bengal is a term used for the north-western part of Bangladesh and the northern part of West Bengal. It comprises 8 districts and Siliguri, in particular, is the gateway to northeast India and a commercial hub, is also the central hub of education within the Terai along with the Dooars region. Along with West Bengal, students from neighboring states Sikkim, Bihar, and Assam and neighboring nations Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Myanmar pursue higher education here as there are a number of English medium schools, both at the primary and secondary level which has immense potential in Education, skill development. The state largely depends on how public and private sectors work together to leverage the strength of the higher education ecosystem for improving the overall human development and for creating a pool of high-skilled manpower which can contribute to the social & economic development of the state.
In order to make people aware of the above perspective and facts, a conference was planned.
The conference on Industry Institute Interface was organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry on 18 September 2017 at Siliguri. This conference was held to bridge a gap between the industries and institutes and introduce the students to newer technologies and methodologies and encourage the concept of entrepreneurship. These would help the students to get them prepared and trained for the corporate world. It was mentioned there that the industries and institutes should use each other resources and take full advantage of infrastructural facilities by making it available for benefit of industries, students, and society. This conference educated people necessity of bringing a paradigm change in Youth Empowerment through Education, Skill Development, and entrepreneurship. The main objective of this conference was to bring in together all the North Bengal ITI and Polytechnic college and Government Institution together for Industry Institute interface for understanding the requirement of industry and creating employment through entrepreneurship.It helped to generate awareness amongst local youth on employment-linked skill-training opportunities in the region and outside and provide competencies that would enable the local population to become self-employed.
