World Mosquito Day was first established on August 20, 1897, when the link between mosquitoes and malaria transmission was discovered by Sir Ronald Ross. The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine celebrated World Mosquito Day with exhibitions and parties designed for Infotainment.
As the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak spreads in African and a scare in New Delhi, the Director of Health Services, West Bengal has asked the Darjeeling District Chief Medical Officer of Health to arrange for a three to four bed isolation ward of wither Siliguri District Hospital or North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. It has all been done as a precautionary measure.
The deadly outbreak of Encephalitis has gripped the entire region of North Bengal with death tolls rising each passing day. The State Government was caught on the back foot with encephalitis which has acquired mammoth proportions and steps are now being taken to curb the epidemic so that such a scenario doesn’t reoccur in future.
