The visit of the Environmental Conservation Group all the way from the southern part of India ( Coimbatore, TN) caused a ripple of excitement among the students. The very thought that they drove all the way from Coimbatore to Siliguri by road was astounding. There was great interest from the students to support the cause. The main objective of the ECG is to create an awareness among the people regarding the killing of wildlife on highways and to reach up to the government for a solution to this issue. They were a group of five men from different areas of work like a Professor, an Industrialist etc. The drive is titled as PATH (Provide Animal Safe Transit on Highway).
It was thrilling to hear the experiences they had while they travelled from one part of India to the other. It was a great time of learning and inspiration for the students. The session was interactive where they showed pictures of animals killed and various measures that can be taken to reduce the death of wild animals on the highways.
As Siliguri is an area where this problem persist it was easy for everyone to relate to the issue. Many of the students came up with suggestions and concerns related to the road kills in Siliguri.
