The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is a high school mathematics competition held annually in India since 1989. It is the second tier in the Indian team selection procedure for the International Mathematical Olympiad and is conducted by the Homi Bhaba Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) under the aegis of the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM). One main purpose of this activity is to support mathematical talent among high school students in the country. NBHM has taken on the responsibility for selecting and training the Indian team for participation in the International Mathematical Olympiad every year. It coordinates and supports Mathematics Olympiad contests all over the country, regional bodies, mostly voluntary, play an important role at different stages. A regional coordinator is responsible for conducting these tests in each region.

Its main purpose is to spot mathematical talent among pre-university students in the country. Brilliant International Olympiad of Mathematics endeavors to assess the competency and proficiency of the students in the field of Mathematics at national and international level every year. Its syllabus comprises of the syllabus of CBSE / ICSE and various State Boards. The BiOM examination is purely based on Mathematics, which provides ample opportunity to the students not only to test their skills but also sharpen them accordingly and provide know-how about international standard. FCES recommends the competition for each and every student who is studying Maths as their subject at the school. 

The syllabus for the Mathematics Olympiad (regional, national and international) is pre-degree college mathematics. The areas covered are arithmetic of integers, geometry, quadratic equations and expressions, trigonometry, co-ordinate geometry, systems of linear equations, permutations and combinations, factorization of polynomials, inequalities, elementary combination, probability theory and number theory, finite series and complex numbers and elementary graph theory. The syllabus does not include Calculus and Statistics. The major areas from which problems are given are number theory, geometry, algebra and combinatory. The syllabus is spread over Class IX to Class XII levels, but the problems under each topic are of exceptionally high level in difficulty and sophistication.
