University of North Bengal

When it comes to higher education in and around North Bengal, the University of North Bengal is a household name. It was founded in 1962 to fulfil the rising need for higher education in North Bengal and Sikkim, its neighbouring state. SouthField College, Darjeeling

Southfield College, formerly known as Loreto College, is one of the most prestigious women’s colleges in the Darjeeling area. It was founded in 1961 and was managed by the Darjeeling Loreto Educational Society at the time. Darjeeling Loreto Educational Society is the Irish branch of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the West Bengal Government had specifically requested the society to manage the newly formed institution at the time. However, due to a lack of personnel, the Loreto nuns handed over management to the West Bengal Government, and the college was later renamed Southfield College after. Darjeeling Polytechnic is West Bengal’s only polytechnic college in the hills (the Darjeeling Kalimpong district). It was founded in 1964 and is located in the Darjeeling District’s Kurseong sub division.
