Darjeeling education dates back to the days when India was still under British rule. After the British settled in Darjeeling for the summer because of its pleasant weather and natural beauty, they brought with them a high standard of education. Many Christian societies established schools in accordance with the educational systems of the United Kingdom, Scotland, and Ireland. The first schools were built in the 1800s. Darjeeling’s education thrived, and it is still one of West Bengal’s educational leaders today.
Once there were enough schools, colleges were established in the hills to provide world-class education. And the majority of those institutions are still in operation and providing high-quality education. Apart from that, the Darjeeling district now has a plethora of educational institutions that offer not only traditional degree programe but also a variety of new professional, technical, and literary courses, making the Darjeeling district one of the major education hubs in West Bengal.
